Manufacturing bags in Portugal vs Turkey vs Asia
Most brands sourcing tote bags, drawstring bags, backpacks, pouches or cardholders end up comparing three regions: Portugal, Turkey and Asia. There is no single right answer — the best choice depends on your order size, your timeline and where your customers are.
We manufacture in Barcelos, Portugal, so we are not neutral. What follows is still written to be useful rather than flattering: we state plainly where other regions are the stronger choice, and we only use precise figures where they are our own.

One qualification worth stating clearly: the duty-free advantage of EU origin applies to buyers inside the EU. If you import into the UK, Switzerland, the United States or any other non-EU market, your own national import duties and formalities apply wherever the bags were made.
When each option makes sense
Choose Asia when unit price leads the decision
If you are ordering large, stable volumes of a settled design and can plan months ahead, Asia is usually the cheapest route per unit. That advantage is real and it grows with quantity.
Choose Turkey as a middle ground
Turkey often sits between the two: lower unit cost than Portugal, closer and quicker than Asia. It is a sensible option for mid-size orders where you want to trade some speed for some price.
Choose Portugal when quantity, speed and control matter more
From 75 units per model and colour, you can launch or test a range without committing to a large run. Short intra-EU transit, no duties for EU buyers, certified materials, in-house embroidery and printing, easy factory visits and same-time-zone answers reduce both risk and total time to market — which often offsets a higher unit price on smaller and mid-size orders.
